Rebuke by God the Father
1 And when we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us also cast away every weight and every sin that easily entangles us, and run patiently in the race that lies before us.
2 And look to Jesus, the doer of the faith, the doer of perfection, who rejoiced in the joy that was set before him, despised the shame, suffered the cross, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Pay attention to him who has endured the rebellion of sinners against himself, lest you become weary and weak in heart.
4 You have not yet fought against sin until the blood has been shed.
5 And ye have forgotten the doctrine, which is spoken of as sons; do not despise the chastisement of the Lord, my son, and do not lose heart when they rebuke you.
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 Endure suffering as a disciplined person. God treats you like sons, because what son is he who is not reproved by his father?
8 But if you have not been disciplined, then you are illegitimate children.
9 Then our fathers, who were disciplining us, we still honored them. Should we not be more subject to the Father of spirits and live?
10 For a few days they chastened according to their own understanding, but for the benefit of them all, that we may share in his holiness.
11 All the chastening at that time seems to be a matter not of joy but of sorrow, but then she gives to those who are taught with her the peaceable fruit of righteousness.
Sermons and warnings
12 So strengthen the weak hands and the weak knees.
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way.

15 See to it that no one is deprived of the grace of God, and that no one is hurt by the root of bitterness, and that the lives of many are corrupted because of it.

17 For ye know how that afterward, when he desired to receive the blessing, he was rejected, for he had no chance to repent, though he sought him with tears.
18 You have not come to the mountain that is to be touched, that which has been kindled by the fire, and that there is no darkness, nor darkness, nor whirlwind.
19 Neither the sound of the trumpet, nor the voice of words, which his hearers prayed that no other word should be spoken to us.
20 For they could not stand the commandment, that if any beast should touch the mountain, it should be beaten to death.
21 And what he saw was so terrible that Moses said, "I am very afraid and trembling."
22 But ye have come unto mount Zion, and to Jerusalem, the city of the Most High, and unto the angels which are at the festival.
23 To the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven, and to God, who is the Judge of all, and the Spirit of the righteous.
24 And to Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood sprinkled, which is better than the blood of Abel.
25 Behold, thou shalt not turn aside from him that speaketh: for when he that hath not turned away from him that spake on the earth, how shall we escape from him that spake in heaven?
26 Whose word then shook the earth, but now he has spoken, saying, 'Once again I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.'
27 And this is the word that is spoken, that, once things are made, things which are shaken shall be removed, that they which are not shaken may remain.
28 Therefore when we have received a kingdom that is not shaken, let us give thanks, that we may serve him with godly devotion and fear, as it pleases him.
29 For our God is a consuming fire.
