Jesus' Twelve Disciples
1 Jesus called his twelve disciples together. He gave them the power to cast out evil spirits. He gave them power to heal every kind of disease and sickness.

2 Here are the names of the twelve apostles:

Matthew 10: 4
Serving the Twelve Disciples
5 Jesus gave these instructions to the twelve apostles and sent them away. And he said, Go not into the land of the Gentiles, neither enter into any city of Samaria.

6 But go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Matthew 10: 6
7 Go and preach, 'The kingdom of the heavens is drawing near.'
Matthew 10: 7
8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. I have given you this right for free, so help others for free.
Matthew 10: 8
9 Take no gold, silver, or copper in your loins.
Matthew 10: 9
10 Do not carry a backpack with you. Take only the clothes and shoes you are wearing on your trip. Nor do you have to carry a stick with you. A worker has the right to get what he wants.

11 “When you enter a town or a city, ask who the worthy person is. And stay there until you go somewhere else.
Matthew 10:11
12 And as soon as you enter that house, ask for his blessing.
Matthew 10:12
13 If the people of that house welcome you, they deserve your peace. The peace you want for them is theirs. But if they do not welcome you, they do not deserve your peace. Take back the peace you gave them.
Matthew 10:13
14 If any house or city does not receive you, and you do not pay attention to your words, then when you leave that place, shake off the dust of your feet.
Matthew 10:14
15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Matthew 10:15
Torture is coming, but don't worry
16 “Listen! I send you out like wolves. So be smart like snakes and innocent like pigeons.
Matthew 10:16
17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you up to judgment and scourge you in their synagogues.
Matthew 10:17
18 You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake. You will tell about me to the kings, governors and people who are non-Jews.
Matthew 10:18
19 But when people arrest you, don't worry about what to say or how to tell them. For the very words which ye shall speak shall be delivered unto you immediately.
Matthew 10:19
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
Matthew 10:20
21 “Brothers will become enemies to their brothers and will arrest them for killing them. Fathers will rise up against their children, and children will rise up against their parents, and will deliver them up to be put to death.
Matthew 10:21
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. Only he who endures to the end will be saved.
Matthew 10:22
23 If you are persecuted in one city, go to another. Verily I say unto you, Ye shall not pass through all the cities of Israel, until the Son of man come.

24 “No disciple is greater than his master, and no servant is greater than his master
Matthew 10:24
25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If the owner of the house was called Baal-zabul (Satan), the rest of the house would be called by an even worse name.
