Creating the world

 1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

 2 The earth was without shape and empty, and there was darkness over water and the Spirit of God was hovering over water.

 3 After that God said, "Let there be light," and light became.

 4 God saw the light that is good.  God separated light from darkness.

 5 God called light "day" and darkness "night" and it was evening, then it was morning - thus it became the first day.

 6 Then God said, "There should be such a division between the waters that the water should be divided into two parts."

 7 Therefore God separated the water below and the water above.  It did that.

 8 God called this difference "sky".  And it was evening, then it was morning — thus it was the second day.

 9 Then God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered together in one place and the dry land be seen" and it happened.

 10 God called the dry land the "earth" and the water that gathered was "the ocean" and God saw that it was good.

 11 Then God said, "Let green grass and trees grow from the earth: and fruit trees in the earth begin to bear fruit."  And that's it.

 12 The earth began to grow green grasses, seeded plants, which contain seeds of their own species, and fruit trees, whose fruits contain seeds of their own species.  God saw that it was good.

 13 Then it was evening, then it was morning - thus it was the third day.

 14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the sky to separate the day from the night, and it will be for signs, times, days and years."

 15 And there should be lights in the sky, so that the earth gets light, ”and it happened.

 16 God made two big lights - big light in the day and small light in the night to rule.  And God also made stars.

 17 God set them all in the sky to light the earth,

 18 so that day and night can complete their work and the light is separated from the darkness.  And God saw that it was good.

 19 And it was evening, then it was morning — thus it became the fourth day.

 20 Then God said, "May the waters be filled with water animals and birds flying in the sky."

 21 God also made great sea-creatures and animals of all castes, and filled the sea with sea-creatures and also created birds of all castes.  And God saw that it was good.

 22 God blessed them by saying, "May all animals and birds fill the earth."

 23 Then it was evening, then it was morning — and thus it was the fifth day.

 24 Then God said, "Every living creature should be born from the earth: domesticated animals, creeping animals, and every kind of forest beast."

 25 God made the forest animals of every race, the domesticated animals of every caste and the creatures crawling on the land of every caste.  And God saw that it was good.

 26 Then God said, "Let us create man in our likeness according to our image, that they may rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the domestic animals, every creeping creature on the ground and the whole earth."

 27 Therefore God created man in his own form,

 He created them in the form of God;

 He made them male and female.

 28 God blessed them, “Grow flowers and grow in number and fill the earth and take control over everyone.  You have the right over the fishes of the ocean, the birds of the sky, and all the creeping creatures of the earth. "

 29 Then God said to them, "I have given you seed plants and fruit trees, etc. for your food, which will be for your food.

 30 And every animal of the earth, all the birds of the sky, and every creeping thing on the earth — everything that has the breath of life — I give every green plant for your food. "  And that is what happened.

 31 God saw everything he made, and it was very good.  And it was evening, then it was morning - thus it became the sixth day.

सृष्टि की रचाना

1 आदि में परमेश्वर ने आकाश एवं पृथ्वी को रचा.

 2 पृथ्वी बिना आकार के तथा खाली थी, और पानी के ऊपर अंधकार था तथा परमेश्वर का आत्मा जल के ऊपर मंडरा रहा था.

 

3 उसके बाद परमेश्वर ने कहा, “प्रकाश हो जाए,” और प्रकाश हो गया. 

4 परमेश्वर ने प्रकाश को देखा कि अच्छा है. परमेश्वर ने प्रकाश को अंधकार से अलग किया. 

5 परमेश्वर ने प्रकाश को “दिन” तथा अंधकार को “रात” कहा और शाम हुई, फिर सुबह हुई—इस प्रकार पहला दिन हो गया.

 

6 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “जल के बीच ऐसा विभाजन हो कि जल दो भाग में हो जाए.” 

7 इसलिये परमेश्वर ने नीचे के जल और ऊपर के जल को अलग किया. यह वैसा ही हो गया. 

8 परमेश्वर ने इस अंतर को “आकाश” नाम दिया. और शाम हुई, फिर सुबह हुई—इस प्रकार दूसरा दिन हो गया.

 

9 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “आकाश के नीचे का पानी एक जगह इकट्ठा हो जाए और सूखी भूमि दिखाई दे” और वैसा ही हो गया. 

10 परमेश्वर ने सूखी भूमि को “धरती” तथा जो जल इकट्ठा हुआ उसको “सागर” कहा और परमेश्वर ने देखा कि वह अच्छा है.

11 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “पृथ्वी से हरी घास तथा पेड़ उगने लगें: और पृथ्वी पर फलदाई वृक्षों में फल लगने लगें.” और वैसा हो गया. 

12 पृथ्वी हरी-हरी घास, बीजयुक्त पौधे, जिनमें अपनी-अपनी जाति का बीज होता है तथा फलदाई वृक्ष, जिनके फलों में अपनी-अपनी जाति के बीज होते हैं, उगने लगे. परमेश्वर ने देखा कि यह अच्छा है. 

13 फिर शाम हुई, फिर सुबह हुई—इस प्रकार तीसरा दिन हो गया.

 

14 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “दिन को रात से अलग करने के लिए आकाश में ज्योतियां हों, और ये चिन्हों, समयों, दिनों एवं वर्षों के लिए होगा. 

15 और आकाश में ज्योतियां हों, जिससे पृथ्वी को प्रकाश मिले,” और ऐसा ही हो गया. 

16 परमेश्वर ने दो बड़ी ज्योतियां बनाई—बड़ी ज्योति को दिन में तथा छोटी ज्योति को रात में राज करने हेतु बनाया. और परमेश्वर ने तारे भी बनाये. 

17 इन सभी को परमेश्वर ने आकाश में स्थिर किया कि ये पृथ्वी को रोशनी देते रहें, 

18 ताकि दिन और रात अपना काम पूरा कर सकें और रोशनी अंधकार से अलग हो. और परमेश्वर ने देखा कि यह अच्छा है.

 19 और शाम हुई, फिर सुबह हुई—इस प्रकार चौथा दिन हो गया.

 

20 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “पानी में पानी के जंतु और आकाश में उड़नेवाले पक्षी भर जायें.” 

21 परमेश्वर ने बड़े-बड़े समुद्री-जीवों तथा सब जातियों के जंतुओं को भी बनाया, और समुद्र को समुद्री-जीवों से भर दिया तथा सब जाति के पक्षियों की भी सृष्टि की. और परमेश्वर ने देखा कि यह अच्छा है. 

22 इन्हें परमेश्वर ने यह कहकर आशीष दी, “समुद्र में सभी जंतु तथा पक्षी पृथ्वी में भर जायें.” 

23 तब शाम हुई, फिर सुबह हुई—और इस प्रकार पांचवां दिन हो गया.

 

24 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “पृथ्वी से हरेक जाति के जीवित प्राणी उत्पन्न हों: पालतू पशु, रेंगनेवाले जंतु तथा हर एक जाति के वन पशु उत्पन्न हों.”

 25 परमेश्वर ने हर एक जाति के वन-पशुओं को, हर एक जाति के पालतू पशुओं को तथा हर एक जाति के भूमि पर रेंगनेवाले जीवों को बनाया. और परमेश्वर ने देखा कि यह अच्छा है.

26 फिर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “हम अपने स्वरूप के अनुसार अपने समानता में मनुष्य की रचना करें कि वे सागर की मछलियों, आकाश के पक्षियों, पालतू पशुओं, भूमि पर रेंगनेवाले हर एक जीव तथा सारी पृथ्वी पर राज करें.”

27 इसलिये स्वयं अपने स्वरूप में परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य को बनाया,

परमेश्वर के स्वरूप में उसने उन्हें बनाया;

नर और नारी करके उसने उन्हें बनाया.

28 परमेश्वर ने उन्हें यह आशीष दी, “फूलो फलो और संख्या में बढ़ो और पृथ्वी में भर जाओ और सब पर अधिकार कर लो. सागर की मछलियों, आकाश के पक्षियों व पृथ्वी के सब रेंगनेवाले जीव-जन्तुओं पर तुम्हारा अधिकार हो.”

29 तब परमेश्वर ने उनसे कहा, “मैंने तुम्हारे खाने के लिए बीज वाले पौधे और बीज वाले फल के पेड़ आदि दिये हैं जो तुम्हारे भोजन के लिये होंगे.

 30 और पृथ्वी के हरेक पशु, आकाश के सब पक्षी और पृथ्वी पर रेंगनेवाले सब जीव-जन्तु—हरेक चीज़ जिसमें जीवन का श्वास है—मैं हरेक हरे पौधे को तुम्हारे भोजन के लिये देता हूं.” और वैसा ही हो गया.

31 परमेश्वर ने अपनी बनाई हर चीज़ को देखा, और वह बहुत ही अच्छी थी. और शाम हुई, फिर सुबह हुई—इस प्रकार छठवां दिन हो गया.
