A description of God's calling Abram
1 And the LORD said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee.
2 And I will make thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and I will magnify thy name, and thou shalt be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed because of you.
4 So Abram went, according to the word of the LORD, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
5 So Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his nephew, and all that they had gathered, and all the souls that they had gotten in Haran, and went out into the land of Canaan, and came into the land of Canaan. Went
6 Abram passed through the land of Shechem, where the oaks of Morah are. The Canaanites lived there at that time.
7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, I will give this land unto thy seed. There Abram built an altar to the Lord, who appeared to him.
8 From there he came to a mountain to the east of Bethel, and there he pitched his tent. He built an altar to the Lord from the west to Bethel and to the east, and called on the Lord.
9 And Abram journeyed, going on toward the south.
Abram in the land of Egypt
10 Then there was a famine in that land. So Abram went to live in Egypt as a foreigner, because there was a terrible famine in that country.
11 And when he was come into Egypt, he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman;
12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'This is his wife.' So they will kill me, but they will keep you alive.
13 Say therefore, I am his sister, that I may prosper, and that my life may be saved through thee.
14 And it came to pass, when Abram was come into Egypt, that the Egyptians beheld his wife, that he was a beautiful woman.
15 And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they glorified her before Pharaoh: and the woman was carried into Pharaoh's house.
16 Then Pharaoh did good to Abram because of him. So he had flocks, herds, oxen, donkeys, slaves, and camels.
17 But the Lord caused great plagues on Pharaoh and his family because of Sarai, Abram's wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto me? Why didn't you tell me she was your wife?
19 Why did you tell me she was my sister? That's when I took her to be my wife. Now take your wife and go.
20 And Pharaoh commanded his men, and they sent Abram and his wife, and all that he had, and they departed.
भगवान का आह्वान अब्राम का वर्णन है
1 और यहोवा ने अब्राम से कहा, तू अपने देश से, और अपने पिता से, और अपने पिता के घर से, जिस देश में मैं तुझे झुंझलाऊंगा, वहां से निकल जाऊंगा।
2 और मैं तुम्हें एक महान राष्ट्र बनाऊंगा, और मैं तुम्हें आशीर्वाद दूंगा, और मैं तुम्हारा नाम बढ़ाऊंगा, और तुम एक आशीर्वाद बनोगे।
3 मैं उन लोगों को आशीर्वाद दूंगा जो तुम्हें आशीर्वाद देते हैं, और मैं उन लोगों को शाप दूंगा जो तुम्हें शाप देते हैं, और पृथ्वी के सभी राष्ट्र तुम्हारे कारण धन्य होंगे।

6 अब्राम शकेम देश से होकर गुज़रा, जहाँ मोरों के ओक थे। उस समय कनानी लोग वहाँ रहते थे।
7 और यहोवा ने अब्राम को दर्शन दिया, और कहा, मैं इस देश को तेरा बीज दूंगा। तब अब्राम ने यहोवा के पास एक वेदी बनाई, जो उसे दिखाई दी।
8 वहाँ से वह बेथेल के पूर्व में एक पहाड़ पर आया, और वहाँ उसने अपना तम्बू खड़ा किया। उसने पश्चिम से बेथेल और पूरब तक यहोवा की एक वेदी बनायी, और यहोवा को पुकारा।
9 और अब्राम ने दक्षिण की ओर यात्रा की।
मिस्र देश में अब्राम
10 तब उस देश में अकाल पड़ा। इसलिए अब्राम मिस्र में एक विदेशी के रूप में रहने चला गया, क्योंकि उस देश में एक भयानक अकाल था।
11 और जब वह मिस्र में आया, तो उसने अपनी पत्नी सराय से कहा, अब देखो, मैं जानता हूं कि तुम एक निष्पक्ष महिला हो;
12 जब मिस्रवासी तुम्हें देखेंगे, तो वे कहेंगे, 'यह उनकी पत्नी है।'
13 इसलिथे कहो, कि मैं उसकी बहन हूं, कि मैं तुम्हारे साथ भलाई करूं, और मेरा जीवन तुम्हारे कारण बचा रहे।
14 और जब अब्राम मिस्र में आया, तब मिस्रियों ने उसकी पत्नी को यह स्वीकार किया कि वह एक सुंदर स्त्री थी।
15 और जब फिरौन के राजकुमारों ने उसे देखा, तो उन्होंने उसे फिरौन से पहले महिमा दी: और औरत को फिरौन के घर में ले जाया गया।
16 तब फिरौन ने उसकी वजह से अब्राम का भला किया। इसलिए उसके पास झुंड, झुंड, बैलों, गधे, दास और ऊंट थे।
17 लेकिन प्रभु ने सराय, अब्राम की पत्नी के कारण फिरौन और उसके परिवार पर बहुत विपत्तियाँ डालीं।
18 और फिरौन ने अब्राम को बुलाया, और उस से कहा, तू ने मुझ से क्या किया? आपने मुझे क्यों नहीं बताया कि वह आपकी पत्नी थी?
19 आपने मुझे अपनी बहन क्यों बताया? तभी मैंने उसे अपनी पत्नी बना लिया। अब अपनी पत्नी को ले जाओ और जाओ।
20 और फिरौन ने अपने आदमियों को आज्ञा दी, और उन्होंने अब्राम और उसकी पत्नी को, और उसके पास जो कुछ भी था सब भेज दिया।
